Pickleball Is Good For Your Health!

Niagara Indoor Pickleball Association (NIPA) promoted the physical and mental health benefits of pickleball at this year’s Senior Active Living Fair, held at the MCC on October 1.

Pickleball is a great way for people to get exercise because it is fun and social.  Physically, it is good for cardiovascular health, balance, agility, coordination, flexibility and helping with weight management.  The low impact nature of the sport is easier on joints than many other sports. It is also good for mental health, sharpening focus and memory, while releasing endorphins to boost happiness and reduce stress/anxiety.

At the event, NIPA collected ballots for two pickleball-related draws.  One draw is for two passes to NIPA Beginner Clinics and the second is for a 5-week Nike Pickleball Camp.  Both draws will be made on October 6.

NIPA Beginner Clinics consist of two, two-hour sessions, which includes NIPA fall membership fee if registrants choose to join the Club.  New sessions are scheduled for Monday evenings October 6/20 at 5:30pm, with more options coming up in November and December.

The winner of the 5-week Nike Adult Pickleball Camp can choose from any future session.  Current camp schedule runs from October 15 – November 12 and November 19 to December 17 at the West Lincoln Community Centre in Smithville. The camp includes 7.5 hours of pickleball instruction offering a comprehensive overview of the game for beginners.  Intermediate players will experience tactical and technical skill development, fun game-based drills and competitive gameplay. The professional coaching team, led by Ed Maga, will cover grips, stroke production, tactics, court positioning, serves, return of serve, specialty shots, scoring, rules, etiquette and much more.

“We had a lot of genuine interest, especially in our Beginner Clinics” said Marlene Campbell, NIPA membership director.

NIPA is a non-profit organization run entirely by member volunteers and is an official affiliate of Pickleball Ontario and Pickleball Canada.  Its first branch, located in Concordia Academy at 1165 Centre Street in Fenwick, first opened its doors in October 2024 and now has over 220 members.
